Their brand of energetic and honest pop-punk harkens to not only the glory days of the genre, but also continues its recent renaissance. With a new full-length album under the belt, and another album on the way, Follow Your Hero are sure to continue their recent momentum and win over hoards of new followers.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
Kevin – Vocals, Jack – Guitar/Vocals, Ben – Bass, Joey – Guitar, Adam – Drums

What’s your hometown (or what are your hometowns)?
We all live around Boston, but most of us grew up in Connecticut. Adam grew up in New Jersey.

How did the band come together? How long has it been?
How we came to be the group we are now is a long and confusing story. When we first started out, the band was just Jack, Kevin, and their high school friend, Max. When we started playing live, we needed more than 3 guys so we asked Ben, who was Jack’s roommate at the time, to start playing bass for us, and Kevin knew Adam from school and asked him to come play drums. Around May of 2011, Max decided to part ways with us and we needed a new lead guitarist. Ben and Joey had been friends for a long time and we knew he killed it on guitar, so we made him our newest member. So now a little over 2 years later, you have the current Follow Your Hero.

Why should people listen to your band?
We always do our best to write the most honest music that we can. Every time.

How have you grown since you started?
2 inches.

What sets you apart from other bands in the scene?
We’re playing to a pop/punk audience, but we all come from very diverse musical backgrounds, and we all bring different elements to the writing table. The final product is a really interesting mix that we find to be a refreshing change from the run of the mill pop/punk song.

What’s the best part about being in your band?
Adam. Kid’s too funny for his own good.

More times than not, influences tend to bleed through. What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Polar Bear Club, Gatsby’s American Dream, Owen, Transit, The Starting Line, The Early November, American Football, Taking Back Sunday

What would you say the band has already accomplished and what do you have your eyes set on next?
We’ve come a long way in determining our sound and the direction in which we are heading. We put out a new record back in June that we feel really speaks for who we are, where we come from, and where we’re heading, both musically and personally. It’s our most successful effort yet, and we’re already writing for the next one. We just want to keep putting out music.

Hey everyone! Jack here. I haven’t written one of these in a long time, mainly because I don’t have much to say that I think you all would care about. However, we have started writing for our next record (whenever that will be, we have no idea) and I wanted to let you all in on that process and how I treated it differently for this particular demo above.

It’s safe to say that each song on All the World Won’t Show You is fairly intricate. A lot of complex and fast picking parts, musical themes making there way around singular songs or the album as a whole, doubled rhythm guitars, acoustic doubles in every song for texture, and a whole bunch more that I am failing to mention/remember. We made that record with the mentality of MAKING A RECORD and given everything that was and still is available to us, we made use of what was at our disposal. Writing this song was different experience for Joey and I…

When I write, I rarely set up the song ahead of time or plan anything out. I come up with a cool part and I see where it takes me. I definitely do not settle for parts, but I definitely force myself to make decisions along the way. I’ll just say for instance, this song definitely needs a prechorus or this chorus needs to be bigger than anything we’ve ever done. Nothing really concrete, but just things to motivate me. With this particular demo, Joey and I tried something new and created rules and limitations. First of all, I tried an entirely new tuning for the rhythm guitars (from high to low: E Ab B Gb B Eb). The second of which was only being allowed to use three chords throughout the whole song. We stuck to this. For all of you theory nerds out there, every chord you hear is either the major IV, major V, or minor vi chord in the key of B major. We allowed ourselves to vary chord shape and inversions. We wrote the chorus first and we decided to vary up the rhythms of the same progression for the verse. Joey’s lead stays the same throughout the whole song (more or less). In the chorus its in a higher register. When we wrote the bridge we changed the harmonic rhythm (how often the chords change) and took advantage of Joey’s guitar playing. You get a groovy little solo and that whole bridge just screams poetic gang vox to me. But, we will see where it goes. This is the instrumental demo. Hope you guys like it.
